Seed Pod Pendant
For me, jewelry making has become a medium of
deep emotional connection with others. At many
levels I have come to regard
my craft as a powerful means of
sharing ideas and emotional delight.
This is true whether the people I connect
with creatively are clients, collaborators,
friends or family. Creative interaction with others
energizes and renews me; it is at the first step and the
last step of my creative process.

I am inspired by the beauty and abundance of the natural
environment of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, where I have made my home
since 1991. My studio sits amid a beautifully wooded hillside garden where the natural
color and texture of Northwest flora dappled in sunlight (or rain), exerts a unique
influence over my work and my mind. At this point
in my career as a jeweler however, and my life as a
mother of two, it is children that are my greatest
inspiration and constant challenge.

Materials also continue to present unique challenges
and opportunites to me as my work evolves. That
transition can be seen in the evolution of my
portfolio, from older pieces using marriage of
metal with deeply colorful patinas, to more
recent explorations incorporating felt and fiber.
The rich process of experimentation, the layering of meaning and balancing
of tension between the visual and tactile in my work, is at the core of my
artistic practice.
